W.B. Saunders Company

This particular volume of Anesthesiology Clinics is devoted to a review of anesthesia-related complications and highlights a number of important topics including the influence of the Closed Claims project on anesthetic practice and outcome, intraoperative awareness, complications of invasive monitoring, respiratory complications, perioperative ulnar nerve injuries, complications of inhaled delivery systems, complications of regional anesthesia, postoperative blindness, malignant hyperthermia, airway management complications, and postoperative nausea and vomiting. The authors of each individual chapter are recognized experts in their fields and have collectively made an important contribution to patient safety. Dr. Jonathan Benumof is Consulting Editor and Dr. Stanley Weber is Guest Editor of this compendium, and Dr. Weber accurately states that the “topic of anesthesia-related complications is a very broad one, and exhaustive review could fill many issues.” He and his contributors have succeeded in producing chapters that are concise, focused, and current. The well written and edited text is highly recommended for those interested in gaining an overview of important safety-related topics, and the extensive reference lists provided at the conclusion of each chapter provides a wonderful starting place for those interested in delving deeper into any of the topics.
