News Notes From the NPSF:

The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) continues in its successful efforts to carry to all of medicine the approaches that APSF has undertaken over the last twelve years. NPSF staff and budget are much larger than at APSF, but the task of targeting overall patient safety is arguably much larger.

The NPSF, in conjunction with the Veterans’ Hospital Administration and others, is developing content for a survey of professionals regarding the existing culture of patient safety in the health care community.

A video program to be aired in the fall over the Health Sciences Television Network is under preparation. It is entitled “How Do We Learn from Health Care Errors? Exploring the Opportunities and Obstacles to an Improved Patient Safety Consciousness in the US Health Care System.” The focus will be on developing non-punitive learning approaches to managing the risk of patient injury. Further information may be obtained at 800-942-4786.

Arrangements for the second “Annenberg” conference are complete. The meeting, entitled “Enhancing Patient Safety and Reducing Errors in Health Care,” is scheduled at the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences in Rancho Mirage, CA, on November 8-10, 1998. Information may be obtained by contacting A. Scheffler at 312-464-5189 or e-mail: [email protected].
