Announcing the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia’s Pedi Crisis v2 App Update

Society for Pediatric Anesthesia’s Pedi Crisis AppCognitive aids, including emergency manuals and checklists have been recommended as a means to address the failure of healthcare providers to adhere to evidence-based standards of treatment during crisis situations. The Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation recently announced a new collaboration with the Emergency Manuals Implementation Collaborative (EMIC), which fosters adoption and effective use of emergency manuals to enhance patients’ safety.1,2,3

The newest version of the Pedi Crisis 2.0 mobile application (Society for Pediatric Anesthesia, Richmond, VA) was released on July 11, 2022

There are several features of the app that are worth reviewing. The checklists upon which the app is designed undergo continuous review by the Society’s for Pediatric Anesthesia’s Quality and Safety Committee and its Checklist Committee based not only on new guidelines and evidence but also on clinicians’ experiences with these aids. The application has been tested in simulation as well by expert review for content4 and format.5

The defined scope of the app is to present the items that a fully trained anesthesia professional would want to know in an emergency. Although the application can be used for training or review, its primary purpose is to support event response during an actual critical event, and its scope of content decisions were made with this in mind.

Perhaps the most important new feature of the app is that it is now available in both English and Spanish. Other languages, including Chinese and French are planned for future implementation and publication. Finally, the app is free and has been made available to the medical community by the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia. Download the app at the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
