Santiago J. Miyara, MD is an Elmezzi PhD Candidate at the Laboratory for Critical Care Physiology, North Shore University Hospital – Northwell Health. He also holds an appointment as a Hearst Foundation Scholar. His PhD work focuses on understanding how therapeutic hypothermia protects the brain during global ischemia associated with cardiac arrest; he is specifically exploring how mitochondria from neurons and astrocytes respond differently after ischemia-reperfusion and hypothermia. Santiago is passionate about intraoperative intensive care as well as normal physiology. He loves dark coffee, BBQ, math, the beach, and working out!
